Smithers Travel Guide
Welcome to Smithers!
Whether visitors choose to be soothed by the tranquillity of vast forests and gurgling creeks, or to stare up at the full glory of the Aurora Borealis, Smithers provides enough wilderness to escape, yet ample modern amenities to indulge. This northwestern BC town, just 352 km (219 mi) east of Prince Rupert on the Yellowhead Highway, is centre stage to Hudson Bay Mountain with its luscious powder for Alpine sports, as well as the Babine Mountain Range, home to a splendid provincial park that is teeming with wildlife. Those who wish to accelerate their heartbeat may cross-county ski at Bulkley Valley Nordic Centre, or hit one of the many hiking and mountain biking trails. The great outdoors and even the cold temperatures are celebrated annually in February at the fun-filled Smithers Winter Carnival, featuring live entertainment and a bonfire. Indoor entertainment options include an art gallery, museum, shops and cafes.
